The History of Chainmaille, as I understand it.

You’re probably already aware of Chainmaille (a.k.a Maille) from the history books, the Renaissance and of course the Knights but where did it all begin?

The answer to that question has been keeping the great debaters busy for years...
Some say the oldest Maille ever found was in the graves of the Celtic Warriors. When it was tested it was found to be approximately 2000 years old.
Some others debate that the real inventors of Maille are a group of tribesmen that lived in the 7th century BC to the second half of the 3rd century BC.
The tribe name ~ Scythians.

Most of us relate Chainmaille, and where it became popular to the Medieval and Shakespearean times.
This is where the knights came into the picture and gave Maille it's real recognition.
People today still love the look of Maille. It is practical, useful and quite beautiful.
The wonderful thing about Maille is that it can be made in all sorts of metals. I can make you something if Stainless, Sterling Silver, Gold Filled, True Gold, Anodized Aluminum ~which can give beautiful color to a piece and Bright Aluminum ~which when tumbled looks just like sterling but does not tarnish.
And it's not just the metals that make it gorgeous. I guarantee that there is a weave that will make everyone have a smile. Whether you like something bold, elegant or more subtle. You will find it in Maille.
Chainmaille has been modernized over the years.
Just look at the beautiful jewelry that can be made.
Even the knights...and their women would be jealous.
Become part of history, try just one piece and I know you'll be hooked.

Have more ?’s feel free to ask ;0))

The Kuler ~ Khicks Jewelry
You don’t have to be a Khick to wear it ;)

About Me and The Kuler~Khicks Jewelry
I specialize in the ancient art of Chainmaille jewelry.
Chainmaille is, small metal rings that are woven together, one by one by me.
A ring is opened with pliers, worked into its proper place, and then closed. The final result is a chain in a weave that may be simple or complex, intricate or delicate as well as strong and substantial.
Chainmaille is an art that has seemingly endless possibilities.
I love this jewelry because it is so unique, beautiful and can be worn by everyone.
Whether you like substantial pieces or more delicate, every weave can be custom made by the size and weight of the ring to match your personality. Just ask!
I use only high quality hand cut Sterling, Copper and Gold Filled Rings.
Pure Gold (in many colors) is done by request and quoted on the day it is ordered.
Each piece is hand crafted by me and I take great care in each of my creations.
If I won’t wear it, neither will you ;)

How was The Kuler~Khicks Jewelry Created You ask?
My life revolves around my great kids, one crazy boxer and a delightfully loving husband!
When I was blessed with the birth of my first child, a beautiful daughter,
I took my first look into her eyes I said to her
“We are the Kula Chicks FOREVER~ together we can do anything!”
Hence, the Kuler~Khicks.
She grew quickly and at about age two became the ultimate ‘princess’.
She would wear different tiaras everywhere she went (see picture above), even to bed.
It got to the point that people didn’t recognize her without it.
On each arm she wore 15 bracelets, around her neck what else necklaces and
of course, rings on every finger. At around age four she asked if she could start making her own jewelry and there our story begins.
About a year ago I found Chainmaille. To be honest, ever since I picked up my first pair of pliers I have been completely obsessed. My husband would find me up until all hours of the night making different pieces. I’d even dream about them, what I could do next and how each weave worked.
I have now taken my obsession world wide and my hopes to make chainmaille "new" again! Keep in touch.
Check out my pictures on flickr and my shoppe on etsy. (see links)
Let me know what you think, if you have ?'s...ask!
This blog will keep you updated on what's up with us and the jewelry ;)
